Juvenile Team News

U16 Camogie

Our U16 camogie team lined out in their second league match on Sunday in a home fixture v Cuala. The girls settled quickly into the match, getting a goal in the opening first 5 minutes. They applied the pressure back on straight away to the travelling Cuala team, and they continued in this manner throughout the first half with the score at 6 goals and a point at the break. The girls never let up the pressure and remained strong throughout the match to the end, which saw them worthy winners on a score of 13-09 to nil. Cuala had arrived down with 13 girls, and they had tired in the second half, while we were able to roll on and off our subs which gave some welcome relief on a lovely hot sunny Sunday afternoon. The scoreline was not reflective of the match and Cuala battled hard right to the end, tackling, hooking, and blocking our girls, but the girls were on a roll and never let up on the pressure. We had scored from 8 of the girls and it was great to see their skills improving every week with great supporting runs and passes throughout the match. Aoife Donoghue took some beautiful side-lines that Austin Gleeson himself would be proud of!! So that’s 2 wins from 2 matches for the Harps girls in their camogie league campaign!! Well done girls and thanks to all the supporters on the side-line!!

The U15 girl's football returned to action for their second league match of the season against St Finians of Swords. Having had a positive start to the season with a precious away win to Round Towers Clondalkin 6 weeks ago, the team was eager to prove they had not only maintained but built on their skills and fitness since that game.

From the throw-in, the girls pushed forward and kept the pressure on Finians until finally winning a free on the edge of the D which was dually converted to give the Harps the lead which they never surrender during the game. The half forwards of Lily Nealon, Lara Whelan, and Nicole Sheridan kept Finians pinned back in their own half and fed the ball into the forward line of Niamhie Fehily, Alice Horne, and Caoimhe Rice to ensure the scoreboard kept ticking over in the Harp’s favor.

The midfield partnership of Fiadh Butler and Chelsi Holland was first to any ball that came to them and kept the Harps going forward with some excellent passing and busts forward. Halfway through the first half Finians hit their stride and started to pressure the Harps defense, but some excellent defending by the halfback line of Shauna Prior, Rebecca Beggs, and Anna McNally meant that progress for Finians was often halted before the danger could materialise. When Finains did manage to penetrate the Harps 20the full back line was immense. Anna Connolly, Cathy Weldon and Cara Dillon all worked tirelessly make sure the ball was either turned over or went harmlessly wide. Hannah Kelly, the Harps keeper, showed not only great distribution from her Kickouts to restart Harps attack but also made some excellent saves to ensure the Harps went into the break with a lead of 3-10 to 1-1

Finians came out strong in the second half and from the start were putting more pressure on the Harp's backlines. But the fresh legs of Robyn Broomer and Saoirse Dillion in the back lines kept the Finians team frustrated. Similarly in the Harps forward line the speed and determination of the replacement forwards Ellie Sheeran, Robyn Kehoe, and Aine McGuiness meant there was only going to be one outcome on the day and that was a win for the Harps 6-13 to 1-4. Credit must be given to the Finians girls they never gave up and fought hard for every ball and took great scores, but the hard work and team play by the Skerries girls denied them many opportunities.

It's Féile next for the girls on the 23rd and 24th of April. There is some work to do but the girls have the skills and teamwork going into Féile with the belief in their abilities and a strong teamwork ethic.

Our under 13 Boys Team

Our under 13 Boys (Blue) football team played against Castleknock at home last Saturday. Our White team was also supposed to play at home that day but unfortunately, the opposition conceded the game at short notice.

The Blue team is playing in the Division 2 Grading League. The boys were delighted to get the opportunity to play on the main Skerries Harps pitch and put in an outstanding display of football. The final result was a 2-12 to 1-0 win for Skerries. This was the boy's third grading league game of the season where they followed up on their two previous wins against Templeogue Synge Street and Balinteer St. Johns. Both of our under 13 teams are very much looking forward to their remaining grading games and the upcoming leagues in both codes and are hoping to maintain their strong performances.

Many thanks to Gerry Connolly, the Pitch Committee, and the Club for allowing the boys to play their game on the main pitch last weekend. It was a great experience which was backed up by a brilliant performance from the boys. This will be a memory for them for some time to come.

U12 Girls Camogie

A great day at home on Saturday against Kilmacud Crokes. Again camogie skills were brilliant - all the girls should all be so proud of themselves
