Skerries Harps won the Dublin Ladies Junior A football Final before a large crowd in Lawless Park Swords on Wednesday night.

In a pulsating encounter Harps came out on top against near neighbours St. Maurs to win the title they last won in 2005.

The Ollie's Place sponsored Harps opened brightly and had the first score from the boot of Lyndsey Davey,  she then added another point from a free, Aine Gilmore then pointed from play to leave Harps three points ahead before Lyndsey doubled their advantage with a brilliant solo goal, where she beat three Maurs defenders before crashing a shot to the roof of the net. Skerries were looking good at this stage but Maurs finally got going with some good movements and they replied with four unanswered points to cut Harps lead to two points. Both sides had goal chances as the game swung from end to end before the sides exchanged three points before the interval, Harps scores from Davey (2) and Gilmore. HT Harps 1-06 Maurs 0-07.

The Rush side came out in the second half and after a minute had a goal from Olivia Leonard to put them in front for the first time. Rush extended their lead before the magical L.Davey pointed and then went on a mazey run and finished superbly to the net. Harps were now back in front by the minimum margin and the game lifted to a new level as it approached the final quarter. Some super defending from  Harps especially Captain Rebecca Davey and Eve Kehoe kept them in front, and with Sinead O'Mahony working tirelessly all over the park gave Skerries a platform for scores from Sinead Cullen (2) and O'Mahony herself to put them three ahead as the game entered the last five minutes. Roared on by the lagre Skerries crowd the teams gave everything in search of the title before Player of the match Davey ended the scoring with a well taken point.

Referee Angela Gallagher blew the final whistle shortly after and Harps were champions. Overall this was a great team performance from a very young  side which bodes well for the future of football in Skerries. Great credit to both teams who served up a game of skill and endeavour which will be rembered for a long time. FT Skerries Harps 2-13 St.Maurs 1-13.

Afterwards Joe Keane Cathaoirleach Dublin Ladies County Board presented Rebecca Davey Harps Captain with  the Cup to the delight of all from Skerries.
