Two Skerries teams travelled to St. Mobhi Road for league games with Na Fianna. In all 20 girls travelled to make two teams of 10.This report is on the blue team.
Grace Murphy started in goal and was called into action early on as Na Fianna were the stronger in the first 10 minutes but good defending by Annie O Dea, Molly Nealon and Caoimhe Ni Domhnaill kept them scoreless.
Somewhat against the run of play Skerries scored through Kerri Costello who pounced on a loose ball to hammer it home, a few minutes later new girl Hannah Lengenhager who was having her first ever game of camogie struck a fine shot from out on the left which beat the keeper and settled the team. By this stage Skerries were getting on top at mid field with Jessica Cashin playing superb stuff and she was rewarded with a fine goal in the second half. Earlier Leah Howell who was like a terrier attacking the Fianna midfield lifted the sliotar out on the wing and launched a long shot that flew past the Na Fianna keeper.
In the second half Skerries came under a lot of pressure from the city team but with Molly Nealon moved up front Saibhe Kelly came to the rescue by breaking up a lot of their attacks and clearing the ball downfield. Grace Murphy and Annie ODea moved to midfield and never let the opposition settle with Grace really getting under their skin.
Na Fianna did get two goals back but a great goal from Ciara Rigney who had a fine game all through getting stuck in and following through sealed the deal. Caoimhe Ni Domhnaill after a very good performance in defence moved to goal and brought off two good saves and was just finding her range with her puck outs when the final whistle went . Harps the winners by five goals to two.
