U9 boys take part in “Conditioned” Hurling Tournament

posted 18 May 2015, 01:14 by Skerries Harps

On a damp, dark Friday the under 9 boys hurling team headed to O’Tooles GAA club in Coolock to play in a conditioned hurling tournament. The essence of the tournament was to encourage the boys to hook, if successful you received 2 points and a penalty. Only goals counted, and 45s and side-lines were all taken from the hand. We fielded 21 players for 2 teams. Our boys ran onto the pitches to contest some old rivals and new friends. In true Harps tradition we rose to the occasion, the rain started to pour down but the boys hurled like their lives depended on it. We traded hook for hook and goal for goal, and all the time were encouraging the boys to ground hurl due to no points counting. Each team played a total of 3 matches for a place in a semi-final. It was tight in all the matches, we gave no quarter and played with absolute commitment. Our blue team succeeded in gaining a semi-final spot against Barrogs. They came at us from the start but we hurled hard and worked our way back into the match. Our goalie could teach Nashie a lesson in penalty saving!! But it wasn’t to be a Harps night and we lost by a very small margin. Thanks to all the boys who were outstanding and a credit to the Harps jerseys you proudly wore. Thanks to the massive support as usual from all the parents, who braved the rain for over 2 hours. A special word of thanks to Lenny Rock of O’Tooles for a great, brilliantly organised, competitive yet thoroughly enjoyable tournament. Come on the Harps!!
