U14 girls power their way into Championship semi

Skerries Harps under 14 girls powered to an impressive victory over Whitehall Colmcilles to finish top of their group and book their place in the semi final of the championship.

A hugely impressive second half saw them finish out the game as 8-3 to 2-6 winners, bringing their combined total of scores in their last two championship games to a whopping 16 goals and 11 points.

At half time in tonight’s tough and exciting encounter in Ellenfield Park there was just 1 point between the two sides. Both sides had impressed in the first 30 minutes with some great end to end passages of play. The Skerries girls were creating chances but at times found themselves under pressure at the back too from a fine Whitehall team.

But the second half proved to be a different story. Skerries upped the tempo, played an intelligent passing game and delivered quick ball into their dangerous full forward line to cause Whitehall all kinds of problems at the back. Although Whitehall never gave up they visibly tired as the half wore on and struggled to breakdown a much tighter and extremely hard working Skerries defence.

Tonight’s victory came just days after the Skerries girls won an emphatic 8-8 to 2-2 championship victory against Na Fianna B in a game they led from the start. The two results mean they now play in the championship semi final and will have little fear of any potential opponents from the other side of the draw.
