The train of cars swept through the gates of Faughs GAA club late on Saturday morning.  Out of them got 18 girls finishing off the chat before focusing on the game ahead.  Having not beaten Faughs in two meetings last year and having been distinctly second best last time out this would be a tough league opener, just as it was last year.  Having got the boots and helmets on the girls, mentors and supporters headed off through Tymon Park to the pitch.  Warm up done and the whistle goes to start the league season.

The first few minutes were pretty even then the Harps girls got the breakthrough with a goal, a great strike from Hannah Coleman.  Skerries quickly had a couple more attempts at goal, with Danu Holland and Sarah Farmer both coming close.  Then Faughs got going and the Skerries back line came under sustained pressure.  Support came in from the half backs and  Dayna Morgan, in goal, made some great stops to keep Faughs scoreless.  The rest of the first half was played mainly in Skerries half but there were a couple of breaks the first of which ended with Megan Carroll scoring from a 45 and then Hannah Coleman adding a point to the goal she scored earlier. During this period Alana Holland sustained an injury and had to come off. Just before halftime Faughs continued pressure paid off and they scored a point.

When the game resumed there was a period without any clear cut chances until about 1o minutes in the ball went down the Skerries right and the chance was converted by Hannah - another point.  A couple of minutes later Faughs started piling on the pressure again and in the space of 5 minutes added 2 goals and a point.  So Skerries were now 2 points behind.  Was this going to be a repeat of the last meeting? Not with the determination and battling spirit of these girls.  Back they came at Faughs with 2 more points from Hannah sandwiched between 2 goals from Aoife Arnold who was now on in the forward line.  Megan Carroll, who had a fabulous game in Mid rounded off the Skerries scoring with a fine point.  Faughs could only manage 1 point in this time due to the doggedness of the Skerries defense.

Final score Faughs 2-3 Skerries 3-7 - A well deserved victory.  Great start girls well done.
