Skerries Harps under 14 boy’s footballers, sponsored by Moriartys SuperValu, recorded a double victory in the Dublin GAA leagues on Saturday.

In a Fingal derby, the Skerries lads were victors over current league champions and neighbours, St Sylvesters from Malahide. In a ding-dong battle played in Skerries, the home side were stunned by an early goal from the Malahide men but they regained their composure to take control of the match for the balance of the first half. However, a goal right on the strike of half time brought Syls back into it - half-time 3-5 to 2-4.

In a tense and hard fought second half, demonstrating why they are league champions, Sylvesters took full control of the second half. They're forward line kicked into gear and two early goals put them in front for almost the entire second half.  But for some brave and clever defending by the Harps, this game would have been out of their reach. Harps scored a free to bring it back to a one point game. Then, with the last move of the game, a great passing move resulted in a Adam Fearon becoming the hero as beat two men before calmly sticking it in the corner of the Sylvesters net to steal  a victory at the death.

Across the city, the Skerries Division 7 side, had to manoeuvre around the Water Charges march in Dublin City to get to their destination in Ballyfermot to face Liffey Gaels who were table toppers. The journey must have taken it out of the Boys in Blue as they trailed at half time by 17 points - 4-6 to 0-1. Brian Trants men re-grouped, reviewed "tactics" and hit the ground running in the second half. They recorded a famous win, 6-6 to 4-8 to go top of their division.

Great day all round for the Skerries lads in the March sunshine!!
