If you were not there, you missed a wondrous Hurling experience in the ballast pit on Saturday 28th September.

The 2 Skerries Harps u12 Hurling teams welcomed to Hurling heavyweight clubs to the ballast pit for 2 important end of season league games.

First up, was the div7 encounter against Faughs. The game started off at a hectic pace, with Faughs scoring first. It would be the only time the Skerries harps lads were behind, but they did have to fight a rearguard action at the end to hold out. The team were led by captain, Mikey Joyce in goals, who was a rock all day. His 2 full backs, feimi & david mellows gave their best displays all year, as on countless occasions they repelled the Faughs attack. The half back line was led by the lion of the team Alan Joyce & Robert Kenny. The 2 lads were the launch pad for the teams countless scoring efforts.

In the middle we had the tireless Conor nulty who harried for the dirty ball, and he was accompanied by the mercurial Sean Maguire. The front line was led by eoghan mcdonald, who drove the team forward and ran the show up front, accompanied by the speedster Clinton Opara.

The skerries team were very lucky to have 2 goal poachers of the like, in Adam Wynn & Brian Brennan, who took their chances when it arrived. Thoroughly deserved performance, which pushed the lads up mid table. Final score, Harps 8-1, Faughs 4-8.

If you hadn't enough excitement for one morning, next up immediately after was the Div1 clash with Ballyboden st endas. The Harps lads have played them on a number of occasions over the last couple of years, and each game was a close encounter, but unfortunately the boys never got the win they deserved. This day was going to be different, as once the lads arrived for their warm up, they were anxious to get started.

The game flowed back and forth, with Ballyboden starting the best with a point, but skerries responded immediately with a bullet of a goal from Rob Delaney.

Ballyboden themselves responded with a goal. This was going to be very tight affair, no different than previous encounters. The launch pad for skerries were the enormous long puck outs from our goalie! Adam Fearon( who incidentally went and scored a hat trick for the u14's in the afternoon!)

Our defence was as strong as it had been all year, with first of all Darragh Archbold, then Cain mullarkey joining Adam El shamy closing down every Boden effort. Scores were traded, and the half back line of The 2 Matthews, Dooley & Kelly, were winning the primary possession to feed to our midfield dynamos and leaders, of captain Paul Wilde & Finn Chatten.

The half forward line of the Harps high fielder, Jacob grimes, and the industrious david Boyd with his spellbinding solo runs, were creating chances for the full forward line of Darragh Archbold and our top scorer, Robert Delaney. With minutes running out, and the loyal supporters nervous for the final whistle, david Boyd eased the tension, with a final goal for skerries.

What a win! Final score, 4-4 to 2-6 for the moriarty sponsored skerries harps. 2 great wins on the Saturday morning, of one of the greatest sporting games of all time take place in Croke park later that day.

Well done all the lads and supporters.
