U11 Camogie weekend match reports

posted 13 May 2013, 00:25 by Skerries Harps

On Sunday the 12 th Lucan came to town. At under 11 camogie there were two matches played on Townparks pitch, This is a report on the under 11 camogie blue team.

The game started with a flourish with lots of midfield action and neither team coming out on top .Again  Caoimhe Ni Domhnaill started in goal for the first half and saved Skerries a few times in the first period though Lucan did score a good goal. Lucan kept the pressure on and good  defending by Molly Nealon who cleared a lot of ball  ,Sarah Murphy, Annie O Dea and Leah Howell did not allow them get another in the first half.

Robyn Buckley subbing up from the under 10’s had a great game at midfield helped by Jessica Cashin who found it a little more difficult  to get her shots away.

In the forwards Kerri Costello and Robyn Joyce went close for goals and were unlucky while Hannah Lengenhager continued to improve Grace Murphy did get a goal back with a fine low shot. Sides were level at half time.

In the second half Lucan stepped up the pressure and Skerries conceded a few soft goals that they would have cleared on another day. Robyn Buckley covered a lot of ground and kept the pressure on and scored two fine points and a goal to keep Skerries in the game.

In the end Lucan ran out the winners. There is no shame in losing to this Lucan team they have a big strong pick and had a lot of good players. A pleasing aspect of the game was that for the last 10 minutes the Skerries girls never gave up and Sarah Murphy ,Annie O Dea  and Grace Murphy especially tackled hard and chased down there opposite number.

This was a step up in level for the girls and they will benefit from it, a good few girls did not play as well as they are able , they will have to improve their ground striking there were too many misses  from girls who rarely miss and a habit of standing back to let somebody else do the work.
