U11 Camogie team take a trip to Salthill Galway

Last weekend 10 girls and their families made the trip west to Galway to play Salthill/Knockarra in an under 11 friendly. We travelled down on Saturday and after a good night’s sleep the girls were ready for action on Sunday morning.

Unfortunately Galway weather was as expected; wet. It had rained all night and there was surface water on the Prairie pitch, the rain was persistent and all present players and parents alike just accepted that they were going to get a soaking.

The team was made up of Naoise Finnegan, Niamh Cotter, Ciara Rigney ,Caoimhe Ni Domhnaill  ,Molly Nealon,Hannah Hogan ,Shauna McGowan ,Eva Delaney, Sarah Murphy and Annie O Dea, a friend of Molly’s from Carnmore called Hannah made up the numbers and she played well.

The girls gave a rousing rendition of Molly Malone before leaving the dressing room, this may have taken something out of them because SK started better and went ahead after 5 minutes. Sk had large numbers and had plenty of fresh legs but in the second half Harps came roaring back and scores from Ciara Rigney, Caoimhe Ni Domhnaill, Niamh Cotter and Hannah from Carnmore put Skerries Harps well in front. Sk changed their team again and fought back to catch up with a tiring Skerries team.

Our hosts were superb and afterwards they treated us to refreshments made by the parents. Paul Finnegan presented their club with a gift on our behalf.

A very big thanks to everybody who travelled and especially the girls who despite the shocking weather never complained once.
