Skills the focus as u8s return to Mobhi Road

Last Saturday saw the under 8 boys travel to Na Fianna on Mobhi Road for football. This was the third time this year we have been there!!!

Again we travelled in numbers and we had 27 in total playing. The games were played on their all-weather pitches which were very tight. One of the 3 pitches actually had a full-sized goal!

It was great to see the skills we work on in training being used. We focused on the pickup in training and all the lads were trying their very best to do this in the games. From a mentors view point this was great to see. At one stage Finn Boylan was really focused on the pickup and ball just went over the side line for a line ball. But that doesn't matter, the fact was he and all the lads were out there practising their skills rather than purely focusing on winning!! That's what Go-Games are all about!!

The lads are starting to be aware of each other on the pitch and there was some great passing out there. In particular, Oisin Hegarty and James Courell combined on a few occasions with lovely passing movement. There was also some great defensive play and the blocks were flying in. This is important for next year when skill points kick in.

Some of the matches were close and Na Fianna had some lovely players (and some tall ones too!). Overall our lads played very well and once again, it was great to see parents out there in numbers.

Super defending!
