Despite the best efforts of the weather the under 11 community games hurlers finally overcame Balbriggan in the third / fourth place play off for the Dublin Hurling Community Games 6-8 to 2-1.

The first match in O’Dwyers of Balbriggan had be abandon due to a freak hail shower that left the pitch unplayable and the two teams soaked and frozen. That’s May in Ireland for you.

The rescheduled match for June in the Balast pit had somewhat better weather ,only heavy rain this time, That June in Ireland for you.

Skerries started well and took an early lead with a couple of quick goals from the forward line. Balbriggans tried to rally but were pinned in their own half by some strong Skerries midfield and half back play all of which helped the half forward and forward line to continue to extend Skerries lead. When balbriggan did succeed in breaching the midfiled lines the back line and goalkeeper managed to fend off most attacks leaving the score at half time 5-5 to 1-1

In the second half Balbriggan came out stronger and tried to close the gap on Skerries. Some resolute Skerries defending left Balbriggan frustrated for the most part and they could only add a goal to their half time score. Skerries continued to attack and displayed some great accuracy in front of goal and from distance by  adding 1-3 in the second half.

In the end the final score was Skerries 6-8 , Balbrigann 2-1. Well done to all the players on great team performances in both games and thanks to all the parents and supporter that endured the weather support the Skerries team.
