Thomas Davis 1-4 Versus Skerries Harps  4-14

Skerries Harps senior camogie players finished off their championship group phase with an impressive win against Thomas Davis in Tallaght on Sunday morning. They now progress to the semi-final stage with a 100% record from their five group games.  Despite the fact that their opponents had only their pride to play for, this was a satisfactory performance from the Harps girls. Having been less than clinical in taking their scoring opportunities the Skerries forwards certainly got in the groove in Tallaght.

Orlaith Durkan opened the scoring when she converted a 45 after only two minutes. For the next fifteen minutes the Harps full forward line excelled. By that stage they had scored three goals and four points from play, with a goal each for Julia Gormley, Clodagh Bolger and Robyn Kehoe. Inevitably the pace of the game slackened and Thos Davis began to get a foothold in midfield. During this period of dominance they scored a goal and three points without reply. Just before the break Robyn Kehoe scored a very impressive point to settle the Harps.

The half-time break gave Skerries an opportunity to regroup and they went on to totally dominate the second period, outscoring their opponents by 1-8 to 0-1. Impressive goalkeeper Aishling Spillane was well protected by an excellent sextet where Ciara Copeland grew into the number six position as the game progressed. Eve Kehoe was winning plenty of ball at midfield and providing an intelligent supply of ball to her attack. Four points, each from a different attacker, set the visitors on their way and in reality there was no doubt about the result once these scores went over. The gloss was put on the scoreboard when Julia Gormley pulled overhead on a great cross from Patricia Ferguson and planted the ball in the Thos Davis net.

A good win for Skerries but they know it will be a much tougher assignment awaiting them in the championship semi-final next Sunday. Having topped their group Skerries have home advantage but will need to be at their best against a strong Ballinteer outfit to progress.
