U13 Hurlers lost to Whitehall while the U14 Hurlers played their opening Feile game against Kevins HC & won 4-8 to 0-9. Pictures will be posted on our Flickr account later in the week.

Sunday - U8 Camogie hosted St Maurs & O'Dwyers, U13 Camogie had a good win over Ballyboden St Endas.  Mixed results for our U15 Hurlers with a win over Whitehall Colmcille & a defeat to Castleknock. Minor Footballers made to trip to Dalkey but it was Cuala who came out on top, 3-12 to 2-11. The 2nd Minor team received a walkover from St Judes. U16 Ladies Footballers got back to winning ways defeating St Margarets.

Our Junior Hurlers made the trip to Islandbridge for the Championship quarter final against Civil Service on Sunday morning, the hosts had defeated Harps in the group stages by 5 points. Civil Service started well firing over the opening two points & the opening exchanges were frenetic as the referee let the game flow.  Skerries slowly got to the pace of the game with the midfield pairing of Eoghan McGinley & Cian Coleman & the half foward line of Jack Fitzpatrick, Aidan Kehoe & Jack Drumm now getting on top. A well taken goal from Shane Rice, the 1st of his 3 goals, saw Harps lead 1-4 to 0-3 in the early stages. Midway through the half the visitors lead 2-6 to 0-7 & at half time they had extended the lead to 6 points, 2-12 to 0-12, with the quick delivery of ball into the full forward line of Robert Kenny, Shane Rice & Matthew Dooley paying divdends.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 2nd half but the full back line of Adam El Shamy, Daniel Graham & Eoin Hickey assisted by half time substitute Kian Coleman kept the hosts at bay. David Graham came into the half forward line early in the 2nd half & immediately fielded a puck out from Mikey Joyce to hit the first of his 5 points. Harps took over in the 3rd quarter outscoring Civil Service 1-6 0-2 with Shane Rice netting his 3rd goal of the game. The outstanding display of the day came from the impressive half back line of Iain Furlong, Finn Chatten & Donal Cotter who stifled any Civil Service attacks & launched most of Skerries attacks with quick ball into the forward line. Additonal changes saw Donagh McGinley, Colin McMahon & Sean Fearon come on in the 2nd half to add to Harps dominance, while the unused subs on the day (Conor Waddilove, David Boyd & Cian Mullarkey) ensure that the pressure is put on each of the panel to perform.  The final quarter saw Skerries hit 0-7 to the hosts 1-1 to run out deserving winners on a scoreline of 3-25 to 1-15. Scorers: S Rice 3-2, E McGinley 0-5, D Graham 0-5, M Dooley 0-4, J Fitzpatrick 0-3, A Kehoe 0-3, R Kenny 0-1, J Drumm 0-1, C McMahon 0-1.

Congrats to the players & management, they will now play Commericals at home in the semi final on September 6th.

Our Senior 2 Camogie team hosted Castleknock in the 3rd & final group stage game on Sunday lunchtime. Harps had won their opening two games & while the visitors had one win & one defeat in their games & needed a victory by 4 points to overtake the hosts & deny them a semi final spot so it was setup to be an enthralling encounter & that's exactly what unfolded on front of no spectators bar a small crowd watching from the Dublin Road due to Covid 19 restrictions. Castleknock opened the scoring with a point from play which was cancelled out by a Harps free. Castleknock went in front again with a point from their full forward before two quick fire goals from Nicola Thorne & a point from Orlaith Durkan opened up an early 6 point lead for Harps. The visitors fought back with two unanswered point to reduce the deficit to 4 points midway through the 1st half & followed up with a 3rd unanswered point following the 1st half water break. Another two pointed free's saw the Harps push their lead back to 5 before another 3 unanswered points from the visitors reduced the gap again before Harps hit the final score of the first half to lead 2-5 to 0-8.

Castleknock had the aid of the wind in the 2nd half but it was the Harps who opened the scoring with a point from a free, followed by a point from both sides. The visitors then reduced the gap to a single point with 3 consecutive points from play approaching the midway point of the half & followed up with another 2 points to take the lead for the 1st time since the early stages of the 1st half half. Two pointed frees put the Harps back up by 1 with just over 10 minutes remaining & the next two scores were shared but then Castleknock hit 1-2 without reply to open up the 4 margin they required to reach the semi finals. Harps fought back immediately with their 3rd goal to reduce the deficit before a pointed free extended Castleknock's lead to 2 in injury time. From the puck out Harps got the ball into their forward line where the ball eventually made it's way to Nicola Thorne & there was only going to be one outcome....a 4th Harps & Thorne goal!  Castleknock to their credit kept going & got the final score of the game to level proceedings, 4-10 to 1-19. Scores: N Thorne 4-9 (0-7f), O Durkan 0-1

Congrats to the players & management, best of luck in the semi final against Cuala on Sunday 30th @ 1.30pm.

Covid-19 update

In light of the updated Public Health Guidelines issued last week, the club has been awaiting and reviewing all GAA communications to allow us to issue as clear a set of protocols as possible as we continue to manage our Return to Play across Skerries Harps GAA & Camogie Club whilst adhering to the guidelines and focusing as always on the health & welfare of our players, mentors, coaches & supporters.

As per the latest guidance, all games must now be played without spectators "Behind Closed Doors". For all games,  this means that a maximum  of 40 personnel per team are permitted to attend within the pitch area - this 40 max must be players, mentors/coaches/medical or ancillary members of the coaching group.

Where Juveniles (U18s) are participating in a game , 1 parent / guardian per juvenile is permitted to attend the sporting event in a "supervisory" / "safeguarding" capacity.  These parents/guardians are not classified as spectators at this moment in time, in line with the guidance received this week.

The GAA recommendation as issued last Wednesday states that while further clarification is pending, the suggestion is that one parent/guardian may attend a game where they consider it necessary for the welfare of their own child.

All Social Distancing  & public health guidelines should be adhered to at all times.

Match officials i.e. referee/umpires/linespersons are permitted in addition to the max of 40 per team, as are media personnel and club covid supervisor/stewards.

In relation to training - teams can continue to train, however must ensure that pods of 15 are maintained (for Juveniles u8-u16 this is 13 players, 2 mentors, for Adults 14 players, 1 mentor).

As has already been implemented, sanitising of all equipment must continue, records of those in attendance must be maintained,  and all players and mentors must complete the RETURN TO PLAY attestation prior to participation in any GAA session or match and it is the responsibility of each Team COVID Supervisor to ensure adherence to this mandatory requirement.

Skerries Harps GAA & Camogie Club is committed to ensuring, in as far as is possible for a voluntary organisation, adherence to the guidance and protocols in place and would ask our members, players, coaches and supporters to work with us to ensure that this can continue as it has done since the Return to Play commenced in June.

Fun Skills Sessions / Academy

Well done to all the players who joined us over the last 2 weeks for the Fun Skills Sessions in Skerries Harps.

These were arranged as alternatives to camps this summer. These sessions would not have been possible to run without the fantastic coaches who volunteered their time over the 16 time slots and were so enthusiastic with the children over the various weather conditions and helped them with their skills.

They are a huge asset to the club and we want to thank them all. Coaches were

Aimee, Alana, Caoimhe, Dan, Ellen, Hannah, James, Kate, Keela, Lauren, Mia, Molly, Naoise, Orla, Rachel, Robyn, Sarah F, Seán G, Seán F.  Thanks to both Paul Walsh and Joanne Kenny for their assistance throughout the sessions with all the Covid requirements and return to play protocols.

A huge shout out to our GPO Louise Byrne for putting these sessions together and ensuring all ran according to protocols- as always going above and beyond to ensure our young members are so well looked after.

We are planning a free fun session for the academy age group....stay tuned for more details for this Free Fun Session & we hope to return for our academy term on September 12th.
