Result : Skerries Harps 3-10        St Sylvesters 1-10

Harps Div 3 Minor Footballers sponsored by Carol Kinsella Chocolates and Ridgeway Barbers continued their successful season with a full panel of lads travelling through the midweek traffic to record a convincing win away in Malahide.

Harps hit the ground running with Sean Campbell and Eoghan Mc Donald winning ball in the middle of the park and delivering to a full forward line in great form. Ben”The Godfather”Kehoe directed operations with clever running, bringing other lads into the game and also finishing with an incredible 2-2 from play – he was then taken off at half-time (whats a lad to do eh ??).

Conor Kinsella got into his stride in Messi-esque fashion spraying balls to his comrades in the full forward line. Liam Byrne was his usual industrious and unselfish self,  and laid on half a dozen scores throughout the game. Rob Kenny at full back decided to get into the action with a well taken point which ended a move 20 metres from James Casey’s goal.

Captain Daragh Redmond and David Mellowes were minding the house in the full back line from the Syls forward threat and restricted the Malahide lads to just two points in the first half. Most of our attacks stemmed from the impressive and strong Oisin Cousins and centre half back, Rory Garland. With Eoin Winters raiding from the right half back line, there as consistent overlap provided for our forwards.

David Boyd’s medicine from mid-week sickness certainly worked with an exhibition of fielding from kick outs and penetrative runs thru the middle of the Malahide defence, made a goal opportunity,  which he duly finished in style. After Kehoe had cleverly palmed, over head, into the net the Harps settled down and had Mc Donalds stylish effort dipped an inch below the cross bar it would have been all over.

The half time warning of a Syls revival came thru and they hit the ground running with 3 unanswered points. Harps started to empty the bench and Jack Drumm settled things a little with a sweet outside of the boot point. The ever-brave Brian Brennan was in the thick of the action breaking up attacks from the Malahide half forward line. Conor Waddilove shored up the full back line – just back from injury he showed no signs of being out of action for a few weeks with a great display. Syls pressed forward and some exceptional brave and energetic effort from Clinton Opara kept us in it. Campbell came deeper and drove the Harps back into it. Still Malahide pressed and only for a point blank save from James “the best shot-stopper since John O Leary”  Casey, we were in trouble.

Last throw of the dice to stem the tide -  Harps introduced the skill of Emmet Trant who quickly registered a point. In addition Ryan Vaughan added much needed  muscle and pace to the full forward line which kept the Syls full back busy. Gilmore came into his own winning and retaining possession and finished off with two great points from difficult angles.

Scorers – Ben Kehoe – 2-2, David Boyd 1-0, Naoise Gilmore 0-7, Conor Kinsella 0-1, Liam Byrne 0-1, Rob Kenny 0-1, Sean Campbell 0-1, Emmet Trant 0-1, Jack Drumm 0-1
