Heroic effort by our Senior Ladies Footballers in the Leinster final last Sunday

The Leinster ladies junior football final was played in perfect conditions before a large crowd in Clane.

The Harps ladies opened brightly and had two points on the board after five minutes from Sinead O'Mahony and Lyndsey Davey. The strong Dunboyne side replied with three quick points, before adding the games first goal. Skerries then had a good spell which resulted in two points from Davey before Sinead Cullen was unlucky to see her shot come back of the crossbar. The game then flowed from end to end to leave the score at half time Dunboyne 1-07 to Harps 0-07.

In the second half the Meath side missed a couple of good opportunities before Harps made them pay with the score of the match. Lyndsey Davey picked the ball up on the 40 and waltzed by five defenders before crashing the ball into the net. From the resulting kick out Sinead Cullen got the ball and sent it over to put Skerries in front 1-09 to 1-07 much to the delight of the huge Harps support.

Then Dunboyne came back with a point and attacked looking for the equalizer but the Harps defense heroically kept them at bay, before they eventually drew level with 10 minutes to go. With Harps feeling the massive effort they put in to quell their more physical opponents, Dunboyne finished strong to take the Title 1-16 to 1-10. This was a superb performance from this young Skerries team and bodes well for the future. The team and selectors would also like to Thank all who travelled to Kildare and beyond to support them in this campaign.
