The Skerries Harps u14 Hurlers qualified from the Dublin Feile na nGael tournament in May for the first time in the history of the Club, representing Dublin alongside St Vincents GAA in the Regional Feile na nGael Finals in Portlaoise.

The team were in excellent company, sharing the field of play with Castlegar (Galway) Clarecastle (Claire), Rathangan (Wexford) & Abbeyleix (Laois).

The tournament took place in the new state of the art development at Portlaoise GAA Club, where they boast 6 pitches, a Ball Wall, Gym & Dressing Rooms

The first match against ClareCastle saw us take on a very skillful, slick team who deservedly came out with a victory – scoreline 3-7 to 1-3. In what was a very high standard of Hurling , the Harps lads were well able for the challenge. Our second match versus Abbeyleix followed a light lunch break in the beautiful sunshine. The experience of the first game stood to the boys, and they had now got to the pace at this level. The boys played as they know they can, and ran out 5-2 to 2-1 winners. The buzz was back in there step, and their confidence was high.

St Vincents and ourselves finished 2nd in our respective groups, so the 2 Dublin teams played each other in the final match. Having never beaten St Vincents, and with the confidence high from the 2nd game, we matched them man for man, and were only 1 point down at half-time. It was a ding dong battle right to the end, but having given their all, we unfortunately fell just short, to a 2-5 to 1-3 scoreline.

A super ending to a long journey. Our first opponents, Clarecastle went on to lift the Feile trophy.

Another wonderful experience for this group of very talented Skerries Harps players.

Many thanks as always to the very supportive set of parents, who travelled to support the lads on the day  and a special word of thanks to Cian Geraghty for his donation of healthy lunch & snack items to keep the team going through the long day.
