AFL 2 win for Seniors against O'Tools

Skerries Harps:  1 -10;    O'Tooles:  0 - 9.

Goalkeeper Alun Cullinan was the hero for Skerries Harps as they ground out a 4 point win in this  Senior league game at home on Saturday evening. Two stunning saves – the second from a penalty, gave Harps the lift to hold out for a late win. With both sides already understrength, manager Terry McGinniss was further hit with holidays and injuries and was pushed to field a solid starting 15.

A 30 min delay due to the late arrival of the referee, did not help on what was humid evening.

A Donnacha Reilly goal for Skerries after 5 mins put Harps in the driving seat and they were on top in the first half but spurned many scoring opportunities as the forwards had an off day.

They still led by 1 -6 to 0 -4 at the break but could not beg a score for 20 mins of the second half.

At that stage it was down to a  one point game – 1 -6 to 0 -8. Then Harps conceded a penalty and Cullinan dived  to his left to finger tip it around the post for a '45'.  Two late points from Reilly and one from Graham Cullen then saw Harps home.

This was not a notable display by Skerries but they did stick to their task, were the fitter side and marginally deserved to win. Their better displays were all in the backs with Cullinan, McGinley, Ward and Reddin to the fore. Graham Cullen distributed well at midfield but up front it was left to Reilly to get the vital scores.
