Round Towers 3-06 Skerries Harps 1-10
Harps travelled to Clondalkin on Saturday the 20th knowing a win would be good enough to clinch the AFL2 title and ensure Div.1 football next season.
On a showery and windy evening in front of a large Skerries support, the visitors started brightly with a point from corner forward Stephen Smith, Harps dominated the opening minutes playing with wind advantage only to see them shoot some bad wide’s, before Towers on their first foray into Harps territory raised a green flag when a punched effort from close range found the net.
Skerries regained their composure and added points from Bryan Cullen, Gerry Daly and wing back Rory Newsholme whose effort from distance being the pick of the three, to put them back in front. The teams then traded points before the break to leave a nervous Skerries outfit ahead by 0-7 to 1-02 at Half Time.
Towers with the aid of the breeze reduced the deficit to one after a pointed free, Cullen then replied with a well taken point after some good work from the marauding half back Newsholme and centre back Davy O'Brien.
Round Towers then got a second goal after a goalmouth scramble to lead by one, Cullen levelled again with his fourth point.
But Towers with a point before a well taken goal left four between the sides, and despite an injury time goal from Stephen Smith, the Harps fell to their first defeat of the season.
