Skerries Harps Club Notes 13th January 2020

As all teams continue their return to pre-season preparations, we remind parents and players to keep in contact with team mentors re: training slots. Matches will recommence in Feb 2020 and fixture details will be available on our website once finalised by the various boards. 

Skerries Harps caters for boys and girls from U8 to U16 and Minor across all 4 codes - Football, Hurling, Ladies Football & Camogie 

We also cater for Adults with our teams fielding in Ladies Football (Senior & Junior), Camogie (Senior & Junior), Men’s Football (Senior, Inter & Junior) & Hurling (Junior) & Gaelic for Mothers & Others. Happy New Year to all! 

As we begin our pre-season preparations, training slots have been allocated to juvenile teams commencing today the 6th of January - team mentors will contact parents with details via text/whatsapp. Mentors check for email from the juvenile secretary with details!

Many thanks to all who supported our 2020 Christmas Tree collections, a key fundraiser for our Feile teams. Well done also to all the volunteers who worked hard from early yesterday morning gathering trees from every corner of the town!

The club extends its deepest sympathy to Mark and the extended Grimes family on the passing of John Grimes RIP & to the Murphy Family on the passing of Terry Murphy RIP.

Well done to all who took part in the Annual St Stephen's Day Charity Tournament in aid of SVDP - almost 60 players turned out and great craic was had by all, as well as some friendly competitiveness as the teams played to win the Mickey Scott cup! Many thanks to the organising committee of Paul Murray, Gordon Kehoe, Paul Walsh, Peter Smith & Chris McConvey. Thanks also to Michael Donoghue for taking some great photos of the event.

The Christmas Golf Outing also in aid of SVDP took place on Friday the 27th, congratulations to winner James O'Mahoney. Between both events €3,200 was raised for SVDP - many thanks to all who supported.

Club house is open from 7pm New Year’s eve, join us to ring in the new year.

The club extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Claire O'Shea RIP. Claire was a hugely popular model in our annual fashion show and will be missed. 

On behalf of the Club Executive, we wish all our members, players, friends, sponsors and supporters a Happy Healthy and Peaceful 2020.

St Stephen's Day Charity Football Tournament takes place from 11am. A slight change to the tradition for 2019, this year a mixed mini football blitz has been organised. This is open to all from Minor to Senior Adult.  All of the teams will be made up of players of mixed ability and gender. Teams will play 3 matches of 10 mins a half. The top 2 teams following the initial matches will play off for the Mickey Scott Cup, which will be presented in the Clubhouse bar after the game & there will be refreshments upstairs also. If you are interested in playing, bringing some refreshments, helping with tea/coffee or are happy to shake a donation bucket for our chosen charity please contact is via pro.skerriesharps.dublin@gaa.ie or contact any of the committee members - Paul Murray, Gordon Kehoe or Chris McConvey.
This is a charity event and though we are not charging entry we would appreciate a donation from players and supporters on the day

Skerries Harps Annual Christmas Charity Golf Outing.

Skerries Harps annual Christmas charity golf outing will take place in Skerries G.C. on Fri 27th Dec.

Time sheet is from 9-30am to 11-30am. Golf will be followed by meal and prize presentation in Harps clubhouse at 8pm that evening. All proceeds from this event will go to the local branch of St Vincent De Paul. To book your tee time contact Paul Murray on 085-1740474.

Congratulations to our Minor Camogie team on their B Shield win over Ballinteer SJ yesterday 1st of December! Well done to the team and mentors on a great achievement.

A great day was had at our last Academy for 2019 last Saturday the 30th of  November when we enjoyed a special visit from Santa for all the boys and girls!! 

Well done also to our Juvenile players from u8-u16 who were recognised for their achievements during 2019, and a special congrats to the players from u13 to u16 teams who received Player of the Year and Most improved players awards!  Many thanks to all those who helped organise, set up and tidy up after the event. 

This was followed by our Mentors and Volunteer Appreciation night, another great event on the club calendar, thanks to the organising committee for all their effort and hard work in putting together a great social event!

Thanks to those who attended the 2019 AGM last Thursday the 28th - details of the incoming executive committee will be available via our social media platforms this week. Many thanks to those who have stepped forward for 2020.

Well done to the simply amazing Lyndsey Davey on winning her 5th All-Star award on Saturday night! It was great to see so many members down to celebrate with Lyndsey yesterday evening, especially our younger members to whom Lyndsey gives so much of her time and experience! A fantastic ambassador for club and county, all at Skerries Harps are very proud of our club hero!

Congratulations to our U13 Camogie team on their Shield win over St Maurs yesterday, in a tough game that went to extra time - great performances from both teams.

Hard luck to the U16A Boys Footballers on their A Championship semi-final defeat to Kilmacud Crokes on Sat & to the U16 Girls footballers on their Shield final defeat to Round Towers Clondalkin on Sunday.

Upcoming Diary Dates:-
Thursday the 28th of Nov - Club AGM takes place 8.30pm sharp at the Clubhouse. All members encouraged to attend. Nominations for club positions welcomed - as per official notification issued, nomination forms to be returned to the club secretary via email (secretary.skerriesharps.dublin@gaa.ie) or by post to the Clubhouse. 
Saturday the 30th  of Nov - Juvenile Presentation evening held at the Community Centre , followed by Members appreciation night from 8.30pm in the Clubhouse.
Sunday the 22nd of Dec - Christmas Draw 9pm in the Clubhouse.

As the season comes to a close for many teams and the weather continues to be unpredictable a reminder to all to monitor updates to training slots and pitch availability throughout the day. Teams with remaining "competitive" fixtures only are to continue training as per slots allocated on the main pitch.

All team mentors reminded to contact Pat, Ger or Joanne re booking the Clubhouse for end of season team events!!
